Mindset to overcome an injury in weightlifting
“My gains will disappear”
In my one year of working out, I had 2 major injuries. I am very grateful for that low number, because I had a bad mindset. When I injured my abs, I wasn’t afraid, I was bored and disappointed during my recovery time. I am once again grateful that I don’t have long term consequences. But I did had a fear, fear of losing my gains. At that time I didn't know; if I ate enough protein and calories that I would maintain my physique, at best I would lose a little bit of strength. But I learned.
Now the second injury. I had a combo of injuries haha. I have injured my abs and my hamstrings. I presume that I injured my hamstring because I sat too much and didn’t do any light activity like walking. I got to a point where I couldn’t even stand. I was in pain, big pain. Then I for some reason developed a sick mindset. That I would lose all my gains plus that I wouldn’t work out. At that time, working out was the most important thing in my life. Yea, kinda funny and sad at the same time. I recovered, picked a healthy mindset. That I won’t lose my gains, if I recover properly, I did light activity which from then I started doing everyday to prevent the pain from happening again.
Building a physique that you are proud of will take time, but ones who try, will succeed. Have a healthy mindset and it will positively affect your life.
Learn from your mistakes, but from others too
No matter if you are man, woman, whoever you are, but this quote changed my perspective on working out, but on life in general;
“Man learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.”
This is a quote inspired by Otto von Bissmarcks quote;
“Only a fool learns from his own mistakes. The wise man learns from the mistakes of others.”
I don’t think a person who truly learns from their own mistakes is a fool. In my opinion, a fool is someone who doesn’t learn from their own mistakes, but that isn’t important right now.
Explore what injuries are possible in a certain exercise/movement or a workout. Inform yourself, be mindful. Find others' experience in this culture. There’s A LOT of people sharing their experience and good luck in your journey.
